Maun |
After the saltpan we enter Maun
at the southside of the okavango delta. We stay at a Drifters campsite
on a bank of the Boteti river
.
It has been a dry river for many years but last year suddenly new water
arrived. You can take a canoe
for a small trip. We see storks
and flamingo’s
on the banks. And again we enjoy a beautiful sunset

.
In the afternoon we go for a walk to a
village in the neighbourhood, Chanoga (= end of the river)
.
With guide Moesiko
we walk into the village
.
There is plenty of space between the houses
!
The houses are made of cow-dong, empty cans, wooden pooles and a roof made
of reed.
.
In the end they will be deserted by humans and will be used as a stable
.
Near the city hall the baobab tree
stands proudly
there is also the water supply
.
The civil servants live in stone houses
.
In the end it is more convenient than the traditional way of living. Chris
plays some football with the locals
.
On the way back we almost lost two of the aussies. Luckily for them there
are no dangerous animals around because (as someone stated): “Predators
hunt for the old and the weak”.
We don't see much of Maun itself.
What we see doesn't seem very attractive
