The Saltpan

Real campinglife starts with a night on the Makgadikgadi Pan. It is a saltlake which is part of the Makgadikgadi & Nxai Pan National Park. It is a large desert with only a few grasses on it and some cactusses.  It is possible to sleep in a tent, but we will all sleep under the clear sky. We take one of the world famous Drifter's black matrasses and dump them literally somewhere in the middle of nowhere. To protect us from the wind we build a windscreen with our backpacks.  We put reflecting dietcoke-cans as markings on it so it will show up in our torchlight. Otherwise we won't find it at night. Chris experiences this!

The stars in the sky are fantastic. The moon only shows up in the morning. In the evening there is a wunderfull sunset  and the next morning we witness an almost perfect sunrise . You won't get up late with this kind of holiday. We leave early for a three hour drive to Maun. We spot some ostriches and a cadaver which is a good meal for some vulteres and a dog  .
